For the first time in 2022, the Los Banos Tiger girls tennis team lost a match, dropping a 6-3 decision to the defending state champion Mountain House Mustangs on Sept. 12.
The Tigers (6-1, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference) rebounded with a 9-0 shutout victory against the Grace Davis Spartans on Sept. 13 on their home court. Kloe Cotta, Melina Mejia, Sahar Ayuzeai and Hallie Moore all continued their stellar play on the court leading Los Banos to their second WAC victory in three matches.
Varsity tennis coach Lynn Barcellos said after the Davis match, “I am very proud of the effort the girls put forth against a powerhouse team like Mountain House. They are the defending state champs, and returned all but one of their varsity players from last year.”
The team was to travel to Modesto to play Johansen on Sept. 14, in a conference match with the Vikings.
