On May 19 at 10:30 p.m., Los Banos Police officers received information of a stolen vehicle entering the city eastbound on Pacheco Boulevard.

The stolen vehicle was described as a 2000 Honda CRV. According to Los Banos Police Commander Justin Melden, Los Banos Police Officer Jonathan Worrell located the vehicle in the 1200 block of Pacheco Boulevard and confirmed the vehicle was in fact reported stolen out of Fresno.

When Officer Worrell attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield and accelerated traveling at eastbound on Pacheco Boulevard.

At the intersection of Pacheco and Menezes Boulevard the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle and overturned onto its side.

The stolen vehicle was occupied by two male subjects who as a result of the collision were trapped in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

The suspects complied with officers and were removed from the vehicle through the front windshield.

The driver, according to Melden, was identified as Yee Vang, 36, of Biola, CA and was taken into custody, Vang was booked for evading, causing serious bodily injury (2800.3 VC), possessing burglary tools (466PC), possessing a controlled substance (HS 11377(A)) and possession of a stolen vehicle (496D(A).

Two occupants of the victim vehicle struck by the stolen vehicle sustained injuries however refused medical treatment. 

 “We are thankful the victim vehicle occupants were not seriously injured,” Melden said. “It is clear Mr.Vang was operating the stolen vehicle with absolutely no regard for the safety of the public. We will work with the Merced County District Attorney’s Office to reach the greatest level of accountability possible.”
