On Oct. 18 the Los Banos Golden Agers went on their first trip in many years. Over 50 members got on a bus and headed for Sky River Casino in Elk Grove for a fun day of feeding the “one-armed bandits” as they used to be called. Sky River Casino is a brand-new casino that opened just two months ago. Of course, the “one-armed bandits” have been replaced by high-tech, electronic slot machines, but that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the day and watching all those flashing lights. Many returned to the bus with pockets a bit heavier than when they arrived, so you can say it was a very good day.
The next trip is planned for our members on Nov. 29 with a trip to the Duarte Poinsettias greenhouse in Hughson for a tour and some shopping to get your Christmas decorating started. The bus will be stopping on the way home at Hilmar Cheese for a no-host lunch and shopping for delicious cheeses. Golden Agers members can sign up for this trip Nov. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. in the gym at the Community Center. Payment of $26 is required when signing up. Our first trip sold out on the first day so don’t wait to get your seat for this trip.
Speaking of sellouts – our October dinner, which featured barbecued steaks by Supervisor Scott Silveira and crew, sold out over a week before the dinner. And it was an outstanding dinner. Members are reminded to get your tickets early for our November and December dinners as these two dinners are our most popular every year and sell out quickly. Guest tickets for these two upcoming dinners will not be sold until the Monday before the dinner and only if there are unsold tickets remaining.
As a reminder – anyone 50 years or older can become a member of the Los Banos Golden Agers. Membership is only $10 per year per person. New members can purchase their membership now and it will be good for the rest of this year and all of 2023. Become a member and join us at our monthly dinners and future trips. Members pay a reduced price for our dinner tickets and are eligible for our trips. Spouses/domestic partners who are younger than 50 years of age are also eligible for membership if their spouse/domestic partner is a member.
