In 2018, Los Banos Unified School District worked with the community to identify critical facility needs that required attention. Facilities are a key component in protecting the local quality of education and assisting the district’s students in their preparations for college and career readiness.
After a thorough assessment and planning efforts, the district’s Board of Education took action on March 8, 2018, to place a local school bond, Measure X, on the June, 2018 ballot. Measure X is a school bond measure that authorized local funding to repair and upgrade school facilities within the district.
Measure X went to voters on June 6, 2018, and passed by nearly 71percent! Since that time the District has made great progress in keeping its pledge to the community as to how the Bond money would be spent.
Construction is nearly complete on the new Science Wing at Pacheco High School (PHS). The new building should be ready by the start of the school year. The new wing will create additional classroom space, alleviating some of the overcrowding at PHS. The school’s science wing was removed from the original development plans for PHS due to costs.
The long-awaited work at Loftin Stadium is in full swing. The Department of the State Architects has approved the design and the project successfully went to bid. After approval by the Board of Education last week construction will commence!
Another facilities project at the construction phase is the much-needed parking lot for Henry Miller Elementary and the Facilities Operations and Transportation Department.
The City of Los Banos has improved the design, and the project was bid successfully. After approval by the Board of Education on July 14, construction will begin.
All of the aforementioned projects are funded through the Measure X Bond funds, which are solely dedicated to facilities. These projects have no financial impact on the general fund budget.
