On March 20, Dos Palos High School’s Virtual Enterprise class participated in their first online trade show. The class is focused on providing students with the hands-on experience of running a business.
This year’s Virtual Enterprise class devised a company named Thermocoat and designed an innovative product that they have been working on since August.
The class is composed of 12 students who all play a role in the company. They have placements such as CEO, CFO, office manager and event planner.
Their business focuses on using the power of thermochromic powder, which changes colors according to temperature.
The class came up with three different products to sell, with their main product being a thermochromic paint to be used on roofs. They believe that this product would help in reducing one’s heating and air-conditioning bills.
The paint would change color according to the temperature. When hot, the paint would turn to a color such as white, as colors like these reflect the sun, and vice versa when it’s cold, changing to a color that would absorb sunlight.
They have a thermochromic phone case, and similar to the paint, this product will change according to the temperature. Therefore, when your phone overheats, it would be indicated by the change in color, signaling that the phone should be given a rest.
The class is continuing the year with a vision to lead the change to achieve more sustainable living and to create a world where all materials have a purpose. Their mission is to provide thermochromic technology that enhances energy efficiency, and they strive to embrace an eco-friendly solution that contributes to a healthier future.
All of the students participated in the trade show. They had three students selling their products to other students who belonged to different companies, while the rest browsed the other participants’ work.
These students are learning valuable lessons about what it may take to run a business.
