Dos Palos High School has been filled with many new beginnings, one of them being the start of the first-ever season of flag football. This new team had its first game Aug. 28 versus the school’s rival, Los Banos. As always, the students of Dos Palos didn’t fail to bring the spirit.

The team members loved seeing the spirit that was shown at their game by the student section, as well as seeing how the town supported their beginning of this new journey.

Kylie Hurd, a senior at DPHS, discussed how she feels about being a part of the flag football team.

“Being a part of a first-year team is such a proud feeling knowing my teammates and I are making Bronco history,” she said. “It has been filled with learning experiences and establishing what it means to be a flag football player.”

Not only are they making history, but they are building what will continue to be the legacy of Dos Palos flag football. Hurd said she “enjoyed every second, and I love being on the team with these girls.”

While having all of these good feelings, Hurd explained “I wish flag football was a sport when I was a freshman because I would have loved to see how much the sport evolved over the years.”

As the team grows over these upcoming years, these girls are setting up the foundation and having a good time while doing it.

“My favorite part about being on the team is celebrating a good play we made on the field. Especially since we are still learning what the game is all about, even the small plays mean a lot.” Hurd said. “As a team we have learned how to work together and read each other on the field. We have grown together to be a team. I encourage any girls wanting to go out for the team to do it. You won’t regret it.”

As teams come and go, this year’s team will be proud to go down as DPHS’s first-ever flag football team and no one will ever take that away from them.
