Weslee Allison, a senior at Los Banos High School, was diagnosed with cancer this past fall. As his family’s expenses mount, persons who want to help can contribute in one or both of two ways.
A drive-through barbecue fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Los Banos High School, and a gofundme page has been set up for donations.
The gofundme page was created by members of Weslee’s family. As noted on that page, Weslee has been diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a rare, aggressive form of cancer, which has caused a large tumor in his head and small tumors throughout his body.
The barbecue fundraiser will feature a chicken meal including rice pilaf. Tickets are $15 per meal and can be purchased by texting Meghan Souza at 209.814.7007 or Charlie Corral at 209.704.0662.
The fundraiser is led by the Los Banos Bloody Mary Club, an informal group of Los Banos residents who meet each Sunday morning to check out pro football games, have a few beverages and socialize. The club is working in cooperation with Los Banos High School, including teachers who have had Weslee as a student.
All proceeds will go to the Allison family to help defray medical and related expenses for Weslee.
Persons who purchase tickets are asked to enter the Los Banos High School parking lot on 11th St. and then pick up the meals in the teachers’ parking lot.
According to the gofundme page, the family has found itself “stretched financially” due to Weslee’s condition. He is staying at Stanford and undergoing regular treatment. Family members have to take off work and drive to Stanford to be with Weslee.
Funds donated to the gofundme site will go primarily toward replenishing the Allison family’s travel and lodging expenses.
