Behind the shutout pitching of Nick Sequeria (W, 6 IP, 0 R, 1H, 1 BB, 7 K’s) and the power hitting of Nico Caropreso (3 of 3 hitting, 2B, 2 HR’s, 3 RBI’s) the Los Banos Little League 12U all-star team opened their 2026 District 73 All-star tournament with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Mariposa all-stars.

Sequeria pitched a six inning complete game 1-hit shutout, while striking out seven Mariposa batters enroute to the victory for Los Banos.

Los Banos would score the only run they would need in the top of the second inning when Kevin Morfin led off with a base on balls, then he stole second base and was sacrificed to third by Aldo Oliverios, and scored on an infield RBI groundout by Raul Mendoza.

Los Banos made it 2-0 in the fourth inning, when Caropreso hit the first of his two home runs, and the locals held their 2-0 advantage.

Los Banos blew the game open in the top of the sixth inning when Lawson Mitchell was safe on a Mariposa error and Adrian Rodriguez lined a base hit to centerfield, bringing up Caropreso, who promptly smashed his second home run of the game accounting for three runs and a 5-0 lead for Los Banos.

Sequeria retired Mariposa in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, two by way of the strikeout to close out the victory.

With their round one victory Los Banos was to play the Atwater all-star team the next afternoon, in the second round of the tournament.

Coach Dustin Caropreso praised his team’s defense saying, “the boys played great defense tonight, they made all the plays and did not commit a single error. If we can play that kind of ball, we will do very well in the tournament”.
