On June 2, at 7:30 a.m. in the cafeteria at Los Banos Junior High School, 20 students and their families gathered as part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) induction ceremony.

Led by advisor Erica Martinez, the students accepted the honor of being inducted into the national chapter.

The NJHS is a premier organization for middle-level students that recognizes academic achievement and challenges students to develop holistically.

Membership is not just an honor roll; it requires meeting specific benchmarks across the five pillars:

Scholarship: Students must meet a minimum cumulative GPA requirement, typically a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) as determined by their local chapter.

Service: Voluntary contributions made to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive attitude.

Leadership: Resourcefulness, strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrating idea contribution and dependable attitudes.

Character: Demonstrating honesty, reliability, courtesy, and respect for others.

Citizenship: Understanding the importance of civic involvement and participating in school or community organizations.
