BOYS SOCCER
Valentine’s Day featured a CIF-SJS playoff soccer game at Veterans Stadium between Vista Del Lago and Pacheco’s boys soccer team. The game was a rematch of the final game of the 2025 season for the Panthers who lost to the Eagles 2-0. Pacheco entered the game as the eight seed after finishing in second place in the WAC while Vista entered as a fifth place team from their conference.
The first half played out like many playoff soccer games, evenly matched with teams getting a feel for the game. At the intermission the score was deadlocked 0-0 with neither team threatening more than twice during the opening frame.
That would all change in the second half as Vista Del Lago scored the games first goal just two minutes into the half. The Eagles would tack on a second goal just a couple of minutes later to take what looked to be an insurmountable 2-0 lead. Pacheco would not go down without a fight as they drove down and scored to cut the lead in half at 2-1 at the midway point of the second half. The teams would trade goals with the score at 3-2 until Vista added an insurance goal with thirteen minutes left. One more late goal gave Vista the final margin of 5-2 and ending the Panthers season for the second year in a row.
WRESTLING
Pacheco had several solid performances at the Girls Regional tournament in Ceres and the Division 4 tournament hosted at Pacheco High. Senior Melaya Soto made Panther history by becoming the first wrestler to capture a regional championship. She will be joined at Masters in Stockton by teammates Paola Martinez who finished 3rd at Regionals and senior Dakota Butler who placed 5th.
At the boys Division 4 tournament being hosted at the Brett Lee Gym, Dominick Hurst became the sixth wrestler in program history to bring home a division championship. He will advance to this weekend’s Masters Tournament. Teammates Christian Bravo and Rey Rivas both placed 5th and will serve as alternates this weekend.
