Los Banos — John F. Mevi, MD passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Thursday evening.
He was a beloved husband, father, and a dedicated physician who served our small community with compassion and devotion for decades.
John was born and raised in Los Banos and attended local schools. After graduating from Los Banos High School, he attended and graduated from UC
Berkeley. He then went on to UCLA for medical school. Following his medical training, he proudly served as a Captain in the United States Navy as a physician.
Upon completing his service,
John returned to Los Banos, where he began practicing medicine in 1962. He remained devoted to his patients and community until his retirement in 2007.
He will be remembered for his sacrifice, compassion, and genuine love for all.
John is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jo Mevi; his four children, Joelle, Jovanne, Justin, and Jason; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, John F. Mevi, in
2021.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1621 Center Avenue, Los Banos, CA 93635.
