Pacheco’s boys basketball program welcomed the Beyer Patriots to town on Homecoming Friday last week. The Patriots came to the Brett Lee Gym red hot having won nine straight games entering the WAC contest. Pacheco was looking for their first win in the last five games.
A cold shooting first quarter found the Patriots (17-2 overall, 5-0 WAC) clinging to a 6-5 lead. The second quarter saw Beyer start to pull away from the host Panthers (4-8 overall, 0-5 WAC) with a 17-4 advantage leading to a 23-9 halftime score.
Shooting just 24 percent for the night, Pacheco had a tougher time keeping up with the league leaders after halftime. Beyer outscored the Panthers 32-16 in the final sixteen minutes of play, making the final score 55-25.
The Patriots were led by sophomore Curtis Harmon putting in a game high 20 points and 9 rebounds. Pacheco was led by senior Niko Lomelli with 6 points and seniors Nathaniel Tellez and Brennan Watkins each adding 5 points.
In JV action the Patriots controlled the game from the tip-off, pushing through for a 55-33 victory.
The Pacheco freshman team earned the only win of the evening and stayed in first place with a 50-27 victory.
