Good jobs shouldn’t be hard to find. This is the belief that spurred Worknet of Merced County’s latest set of community forums slated for later this month.
The first will take place Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Los Banos Campus of Merced College (22240 Highway 152) in room LBB-136 (The Los Banos Campus conference room) starting at 4 p.m.
The second will take place in Merced on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Merced County Administration Building (2222 M Street) starting at 4 p.m.
The forums are sponsored by Worknet, a branch of Merced County services. Worknet is an organization that has been helping job searchers in the form of programs for internships, youth employment services and many other resources for the last two decades.
During both forums, community members will be encouraged to share their ideas for potential new programs meant to connect employees and employers, to better aid job seekers in their search for careers within the Central Valley.
Although Worknet already has a great deal of existing programs and resources available online for job hunters both new and experienced, this more direct approach to the public for ideas is a new way to further narrow the ever-closing gap between the organization and the people they assist.
The forum will consist of sharing from both Worknet representatives and those who attend. The host organization will share new and upcoming job programs and allot ample time for the public to remark and share their views on how the programs should be shaped.
Attendees will have the chance to give their input while mingling with various members of the community, shaping the future of the job market for the better.
Those who participate in the forum will not leave empty-handed: to show its gratitude for the public’s ideas, Worknet will give each person in attendance a $25 gift card for their time and ideas. Those who want to register for a spot can head to the Worknet of Merced County website and sign up for the event to put them in position to secure their complimentary gift card at the forum.
Worknet’s in-person community forum events – in addition to being a somewhat easier to access form of help for some demographics – offer the public a way to directly share their experiences to a panel of professionals who will listen and an audience of peers who will understand.
Worknet usually does events either online or in-person at least once a month and offers a helpful online calendar on their website for the public to keep up with the many forums and workshops that occur throughout the year.
