Car enthusiasts from all over the Central Valley came to Dos Palos for the annual Hot Summer Nights Car Show, which is hosted by the Dos Palos Lions Club.
The June 10th show featured a variety of vintage and muscle cars and trucks that lined the streets of downtown Dos Palos. And for once, Mother Nature cooperated, with unseasonably cool temperatures in the low 80s.
“The weather was the best we’ve ever had as far as I can remember,” said Kevin Laurenco of the Lions Club.
He did remark that the car count was down a bit from previous years, noting that the local show has to compete against the big American Graffiti Show in Modesto.
“The American Graffiti show always hurts us a bit. I thought we would have over 100 cars because of the weather. But what we lost in quantity, we really made up for in quality. There were some really beautiful cars and trucks in town.”
The Best of Show Award went to Scott Crist of Los Banos, who entered his 1968 Chevy K10. The Best Interior Award went to a 1935 Chevrolet Master Sedan owned by Dan Franks of Merced. The People’s Choice Award was won by Paulette Lorenzetti of Firebaugh, who entered a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air on behalf of her late husband, Ron.
The Under Construction category was won by Jeff Troost of Chowchilla with 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The Biggest Car Club in attendance was the Valley Vintage Car Club out of Merced.
