At the Oct. 20 meeting of the Dos Palos Oro Loma School District Board, board members Gordon Bonds, Moy Meraz, and Jeremy O’Banion were sworn in by Superintendent Megan Grijalva for an additional term as members of the Dos Palos Oro Loma School Board.
The seats were initially scheduled to be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot, but, due to no opposition, Bonds, Meraz and O’Banion will continue for an additional term.
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) officers also provided the board with their monthly presentation. The FFA is a student body organization that allows members to gain knowledge and experience new opportunities.
The Dos Palos FFA participates in, and contributes to, numerous community service events including Thanksgiving and Christmas canned food drives, “Kids,” and “Serving Cadets.” There are currently 253 members.
The board also heard a report that Dos Palos High School teacher Madison Hunger is leading the Virtual Enterprise class offered at Dos Palos High School. Virtual Enterprise is an entrepreneurial class in which students research problems in the world, select a problem that they can work on finding a solution to and create a business for that solution.
The Virtual Enterprise class will be taking part in various competitions and conferences throughout the year. The students provided the board with an opening presentation.
The next Dos Palos Oro Loma School Board meeting will be Nov. 17 at Marks Elementary School at 7pm.
