On Tuesday, Oct. 25, both the girl’s and boy’s water polo teams from Los Banos and Pacheco high schools swam their final matches at the Pacheco High School swimming pool.
In the girl’s match, the Los Banos Tigers (8-6) outswam the Pacheco Panthers by the score of 16-8 to claim bragging rights in the crosstown rivalry for the two Los Banos schools.
Avery Sousa paced the offense for the Tigers, scoring a game-high four goals. Samantha Carter and Cassidy Barcellos added two goals each for the victorious Tigers. Greta Guicciardi led all scorers with five goals for the Panthers.
In the exciting boy’s match with eight lead changes, the Pacheco Panthers earned a 14-12 victory over the home team Tiger. Behind the strong play of Josh Chedester and Matt Spina, each recorded four goals, Los Banos opened an early 8-5 lead. The Panthers roared back on the strength of nine goals by Eirvin Rubio. Jonathan Rodriguez added three goals to the Panther’s total, and Isaiah Caballero defended the Panther goal, blocking 11 shots to help Pacheco win the match.
After the match, Eirvin Rubio told the Express, “We were all in for this final match. Our defense was great all night long. This win was how we wanted to end our season.”
