Margaret “Marg” Benton, member of the Los Banos Unified School District Board of Trustees since 2016, passed away Sept. 13 after suffering complications from COVID-19. She was 70 years old.

Benton has also been a longtime member of the Los Banos Rotary Club, serving as president for several terms, and has served on the board of the Los Banos Memorial Hospital.

Benton came to Los Banos after growing up in Iowa and living in various places in the United States.  She appreciated calling Los Banos her home and was an active participant in community activities.

“We have lost not only a great school board member, but a person devoted to community service,” said fellow board member Gene Lieb. “Marg will be deeply missed by many people in and around Los Banos.”

A celebration of Benton’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at 22891 W. Sunset Ave. The Saturday service will be followed by an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same location

A scholarship in Benton’s name will be created for LBUSD students pursuing a career in music. For more information contact the district office.
