A Los Banos woman was killed in Hanford last week during an early morning robbery, law enforcement said.

The Hanford Police Department received a report of a man and woman arguing and gunshots being fired on March 23 on the 500 block of Northstar Drive at 3:35 a.m.

Police arrived at the scene and found a woman, later identified as Sully Cortez Neri, 25, of Los Banos, suffering from gunshot wounds. Cortez Neri was taken to Adventist Health Hanford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a day later.

Hanford police said the department’s investigation led them to conclude that Cortez Neri went to a local apartment complex to meet the male suspect, who attempted to rob her when she was leaving. Cortez Neri fought back to prevent her money from being stolen and was shot several times, according to police.

The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Jason Harris. Police said Harris fled the scene after the shooting and was spotted on Wednesday on 11th Avenue and Cortner Street. He attempted to run from law enforcement but was eventually caught during a foot pursuit, police said.

Detectives were able to locate the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, police said.

Harris was arrested on suspicion of homicide, robbery and resisting peace officers. He was booked into the Kings County Jail.

Anyone with information related to the case is being asked to contact a Hanford police detective at 559-585-2540.
