Moments spent with family and friends are ones cherished for life, and undeniably the best thing we can do with the time we have.

Dos Palos High School closes its school for the week of Thanksgiving to give its students a break, allowing them to spend time with their families and catch up. It allows students to take their minds off their textbooks, schedules and academics, and enjoy themselves for a while.

Thanksgiving is all about being grateful for things in life and being grateful for those around us. This break allows students to reflect on their lives and to appreciate the smaller things in life. Students might be grateful for the friends they have made and relationships that have prospered thanks to school.

School is one of the most popular places for making friends. School isn’t just about academics, but it’s also where friendships naturally form. Whether it be through the shared stress from academics or simply being in the same class, these connections are genuine and formed through shared experiences.

The break given to spend Thanksgiving is a reminder to appreciate the relationships we create with individuals inside and outside of school. These friendships often become meaningful, going past simple high school friendships and turning into lifelong companionships.

Nevertheless, as students enjoy their 5-day week off and prepare for the holiday, it also serves as a time for them to reflect on how they have grown as a person and thank themselves and others for the important things in life. Be it friends, family, teachers or classmates, expressing sincere emotions can be a great way to spend the Thanksgiving holiday, a day of gratitude. Thanksgiving is truly a time to appreciate everything in life and reflect on positive ways to go about one’s life.
