Dear Editor,

My name is Emily Sanchez. I am 18, and I am currently doing my general education at the Merced College Los Banos Campus. I hope to find the direction I want to go for my future and apply to universities after my time at Merced College.

So far, my work has improved so much since being here with a helping community, and I continue to learn and grow past limits I didn’t even know I could.

I did not always reside in Los Banos; I moved here from Salinas and attended Los Banos High School for my senior year. Transitioning to a new environment was a challenge for me because I had to leave behind everyone I knew. Having to adapt academically and socially has taught me to embrace change, because there are good things that come out of it.

One of these things is having the opportunity to start my college life by attending the Merced College Los Banos Campus. Since beginning my studies at the college, I have felt welcomed and supported by staff and professors.

I feel as though everyone here works in the best interest of the students, and that helps build the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere I experience.

The guidance of the staff and the professors is helping me explore multiple different directions I could go for my future. While I’m still undecided, I now know there are many different paths a person can take.

The people at our campus have created an atmosphere where my transition into a new environment and a new part of life has a sweeter taste.
