A Los Banos teen is being accused of killing someone at a house party in a neighboring county last month, according to the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Erich Layton said on June 20 at 10:42 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a stabbing on the 5400 block of Jennie Avenue in the unincorporated community of Keyes in Stanislaus County.
Layton said a large fight had erupted, which resulted in the stabbing of two women. He said the first victim, 20-year-old Emily Lopez, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office has reviewed multiple cell phone videos of the brawl, which were recorded by party-goers.
A 16-year-old girl from Los Banos was identified as the responsible party for Lopez’s death, according to law enforcement. On June 24 the teen was arrested by Stanislaus deputies on suspicion of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. The arrest took place at the Los Banos Police Department.
Layton said law enforcement does not have evidence that the Los Banos teen stabbed the woman who survived. The 16-year-old is only being connected to the homicide of Lopez, Layton said.
Apart from the stabbing victims, law enforcement said, others were found near the party with injuries ranging from being punched and kicked to being hit in the head with objects. Many people were treated for their injuries at the scene of the brawl.
Law enforcement has indicated that more arrests may occur.
The Los Banos teen is currently being held at Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.
The sheriff’s office said it is not releasing any details of what led to the stabbing and fight while detectives are still interviewing witnesses.
