High winds on Saturday caused two large branches of a tree in front of Los Banos Fire Station 1 to break, blocking one lane of Seventh Street. Public works employees responded and removed the tree limbs. High winds also filled the air in most of Los Banos with smoke from a 200-acre grass fire near Billy Wright landfill. The California Highway Patrol closed I5 for a short time due to low visibility.
Firefighters and an air water transport plane helped extinguish the fire in a few hours. The cause of the fire is unknown.
