Last Tuesday and Thursday, the Los Banos Tiger tennis team (9-1, CCC) played the Buhach Colony Thunder and the Atwater Falcons. The Tigers won both matches to remain tied for first place in CCC league play.
On their home court on April 1, the Tigers claimed a rain-shortened victory 5-2 over Buhach Colony to improve to 8-1 in CCC league play.
Nick Tova (7-6, 6-0), Noah Cardenas (6-3, 6-0), Tyler Meza (6-1, 6-0) and Yahir Zuniga (7-4, 6-4) all defeated their Thunder opponents, and with just one doubles match win, the Tigers had five set wins, and won the match before mother nature washed out the remaining matches, with Justin Gould and Chase Fifield still on the court.
On April 3, the Tigers traveled to Atwater to play the Atwater Falcons, and Los Banos came home with an 8-1 victory to improve to 9-1 in CCC league action.
The Tigers’ number one player, Justin Gould, took his Falcon opponent to a super tiebreaker match but came up short 8-10 in the tiebreaker, but that was the only set win Atwater would claim on this day.
Chase Fifield won his match in a super tiebreaker (6-4, 5-7, 12-10), then Nick Tova (6-2, 6-7, 10-2), Yahir Zuniga (6-2, 6-2), Noah Cardenas (6-1, 1-6, 6-3) and Tyler Meza (6-1, 6-2) all recorded match wins for Los Banos.
The Tigers also won all three doubles matches, with Nelson Fabian and Brody Benton winning in straight sets 6-3 and 6-4. Gracien Indart and Alexis Reyna (6-0, 6-0) and Edgar Vizcarra and Jesus Lopez defeated their Atwater opponents 6-0 and 6-1 to close out the 8-1 match victory and keep the Tigers in a first place tie with a head to head match loaming with the Merced Bears April 10.
Noah Cardenas told The Westside Express, “This match this week with Merced is the biggy, the winner will win the CCC league title.”
