Hello, readers! My name is David J. Esteves, also known as “D.J.,” and I am excited to introduce myself as a new contributor to The Westside Express.

Writing has always been a significant part of my life—as a deep-rooted passion that allows me to explore ideas, emotions, and human experiences. I have always been fascinated by storytelling in all its forms, from literature and film to art and history.

As a dedicated writer, I have authored several short stories and I continue to explore the world through fiction and non-fiction. My love for books spans across genres. Beyond writing, I have a strong appreciation for visual art.

Art, like literature, has a way of speaking to the soul, and I enjoy collecting pieces that evoke my emotions and inspire my own reflections on life in general. I also enjoy traveling and watching a good film now and then. I’m quite the food enthusiast and I also enjoy shopping and good music. My creativity and overall positivity keep me going in life, even during difficult times. I have found my outlets most uplifting.

When it comes to education, I consider myself a lifelong learner. I am always eager to expand my knowledge on a wide range of subject matters. I believe that curiosity is one of the greatest gifts we can cultivate, and I find joy in learning new things every day.

I graduated from Dos Palos High School in 2009, where, during my senior year, I was a writer as well as the lead editor of the high school’s newspaper, the Bronco Informer. It was an experience that I will never forget. After I graduated from Dos Palos High, I attended Clearfield Job Corps in Clearfield, Utah, from 2010 to 2011; Merced College from 2011 to 2013; and, lastly, at the Merced campus of the Merced County Office of Education, where I attended from 2014 to 2015.

Since graduating from the Merced County Office of Education, I have held a few jobs around Los Banos, including a stint at Target, two different stints at Wal-Mart, and even a temporary stint at Save Mart Supermarket.

When I graduated from Dos Palos High School, I remember I wanted to try to get somewhere with my writing, and thanks to Gene Lieb all these years later, I see that I am indeed finally doing it, and I couldn’t be more excited.

As I embark on this journey with The Westside Express, I look forward to sharing stories, insights, and engaging discussions with this wonderful community. Writing is more than just words on a page—it is about connection, exploration, and understanding. I hope to bring all of that and more to my work here. I met Gene prior to writing this, and I’m beyond excited to share my writing abilities with the local area.
