Miano Elementary School will host its annual Ag Day event on March 7 from 8:20 to 11:30 a.m. Ag Day highlights the significance of our agricultural community by educating students with exciting presentations and fun hands-on activities.
The event has seen significant growth over the years, with 36 presenters scheduled to participate this year, which is the largest turnout yet.
Students will rotate through seven 20-to-25-minute stations and engage with various presenters ranging from local farmers to police and fire departments.
Some notable participants include Helena Chemical, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department with their canine unit and drone demonstrations, and Kagome, a local plant that produces sauces for Panda Express and Pizza Hut.
Ag Day also allows older students involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA) to showcase their animals, giving them valuable practice ahead of competitions.
These presentations also allow younger students to interact with their peers and gain insight into the dedication and hard work involved in caring for livestock.
Staci Chase, who has been leading Ag Day for the past four to five years, emphasized the importance of the event in connecting students to their local agricultural industry.
She said, “Living in an agricultural community, I think it’s important that the students are exposed to the things that are here because sometimes they don’t even know or understand what goes on in the community they live in that is ag-related.”
As Ag Day approaches, Chase expresses her gratitude for the support from her team and Principal Zelda Dias, whose trust has been essential in bringing Ag Day to life. With an exciting array of activities and presenters, Ag Day promises to be an educational and fun experience.
