Breakfast with Santa in Dos Palos is Saturday Dec. 21. Presenter Dos Palos Cheer Boosters serves from 8 until 11 a.m. at the Dos Palos Theater, 1406 Center Ave.
The fundraising group promises on Facebook an “excited and joyful” breakfast that brings together members of the community. A room decorated with twinkling lights and garland, Christmas carols and holiday themed activities create “a heartwarming sight to see.”
Parents can take photos of their children’s joyful faces as they delight in seeing the “jolly man in red.” The menu is pancakes, eggs and bacon or sausage. The meal is served with hot cocoa or coffee.
At $12 each, save $3 on advanced tickets. Find Dos Palos Cheer Boosters on Facebook and Instagram for a list of members selling tickets. Contact dospaloscheerboosters@gmail.com
On the evening of Dec. 21, the Dos Palos Lions Club presents the Eagle Field 2024 Christmas Party in the Historic Eagle Field Hanger. The family event features dinner, refreshments, raffle prizes and live and silent auctions.
The party is a special celebration this year. The festive gathering concludes the first calendar year that Eagle Field Runway Racing is sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association.
Allowing plenty of time for holiday visiting, the no host bar opens at 4 p.m. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. For $30 per person. Anyone purchasing 8 tickets can have a table reserved.
Tickets can be purchased at eaglefielddrags.com. Optionally, call Rocky Phillips at 559-351-3537. Peggy Jelen reminds us that friends of Eagle Field have been busy gathering “cool” silent auction items. Win wonderful gifts or something great for personal enjoyment. The live auction promises to be a lively finale to the evening.
A custom made “Eagle Field Runway Drags” board game is an auction highlight. The game pieces are authentic-looking miniature race cars. The game board sports miniature banners of Eagle Field sponsors. The game has the makings of a rare collector item.
Jelen reminds us, “This event offered by the Dos Palos Lions Club is a major fundraiser. The proceeds are a necessary support for maintenance of our local historical runway. We always are on the brink of having enough funds to maintain this important historical site in our community.”
Anyone with the giving spirit can make contributions to the “Gave to Save the Runway” campaign. A “Gave to Save the Runway” contribution may be a perfect gift to solve the dilemma for those still shopping. Optionally, place your name or company name on a sign and give to preserve Eagle Field.
The two by four feet signs are attached to runway barriers during Eagle Field races. Each contribution helps forestall runway deterioration. Log on to eaglefielddrags.com. Scroll down and click on “Your Name Here: Gave To Save The Runway.”
Eagle Field supporters encourage all locals to come out and enjoy this festive party which is a major fundraiser. They remind us that all the workers who keep Eagle Field open for runway drags and other events are volunteers.
The Eagle Field location on navigational systems is 11100 West Eagle Avenue, Firebaugh. To reach Eagle Field, take North Russell Avenue. Turn west onto West Althea. After about a mile West Eagle Avenue is on the right.
Dos Palos Theater and Entertainment, 1406 Center Ave. in downtown Dos Palos, reminds everyone about the two remaining holiday movies. By popular demand, cuddle down in PJ’s and blankets to see “Home Alone” on Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. Admission is $3. Children and under are admitted free.
On Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. enjoy a “Cookies and Cocoa” community appreciation. See “The Polar Express.”
During the upcoming week, spread holiday cheer. Keep things simple by enjoying local festive events.
