The 2023-24 Governor of Rotary District 5220, Waqar Rizvi, visited the Los Banos Rotary Club at its evening meeting Sept. 26 and told the young people at the meeting that they are the hope of the future.
District 5220, which includes Los Banos, stretches from Madera in the South to Galt in the North, from Tracy in the west to Yosemite in the east with 58 current Rotary clubs.
Rizvi has been a member of Rotary Club of Stockton since 2008. He has held multiple leadership positions within the club, including being the president. He was the District Awards Chair for four years and was the Assistant District Governor (2020-22).
Rizvi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Pacific in 2002. He received his Master of Business Administration from National University in 2007.
He works in the San Joaquin County Department of Information Systems as manager of the Assessor/Recorder office. He is also serving his second term as a planning commissioner for the City of Stockton.
Tanya Price, President of the Los Banos Rotary Club, welcomed Rizvi and then asked the Interact clubs from Los Banos and Pacheco High Schools and the newly formed Rotaract Club of the Los Banos Campus of Merced College to give updates on their work in the spirit of “Service about Self,” the Rotary motto.
Rizvi said he was impressed with the work the young people of Los Banos are doing and told them they are “the hope for the future,” in keeping with the 2023-24 Rotary theme of “Create Hope in the World.”
He encouraged the Los Banos Rotary Club not only to encourage more individuals to become members, but also to work at keeping the members it already has.
Both Rizvi and Price were wearing orange outfits, appropriate, said, Rizvi, because Rotarians need to stand out and alert others to the importance of being a Rotarian.
