The finalists for the 2023 Miss May Day Scholarship Competition (also known as the May Day

Queen contest) have been announced. They are Jocelyn Vierra (age 18, Los Banos High School), Makenna Silveira (age 17, Los Banos High School), and Kerstyn Mumby (age 18, Dos Palos High School).

On April 29, the Saturday prior to the Merced County Spring Fair (also known as the May Day Fair), the finalists will enjoy a luncheon with the judges. The judges will deliberate and announce this year’s Miss May Day Queen at the kick-off dinner event.

The Miss May Day Scholarship Competition has not been celebrated for the past few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the chairpersons were unsure if the event could be held until the very last minute. Therefore, the last-selected May Day Queen, Emma Menefee, returned to oversee her duties.

The Miss May Day Scholarship competition is a long-standing tradition and an honor to the finalists as they oversee various events at the fair and parade.
