On Thursday, March 16, the Los Banos Tiger boys’ tennis team hosted the Lathrop Spartans and defeated their WAC conference opponents by the score of 8 to 1.
Tiger number one player Cody Spent shut out his Spartan counterpart, 6-0 and 6-0. Jonas Gurgen, (Tigers number two player) won his two matches, 6-4 and 6-4. Jake Bangle defeated his Lathrop opponent by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Nick Twa recorded the fourth win for Los Banos by claiming both his matches, 6-3 and 6-4. Jorge Martinez upped the Tiger win total to five, wih his 6-3 and 6-4 wins. In the doubles events, the Tiger doubles teams won all three sets. Sal Garcia and Eric Martinez won their matches 6-2 and 6-4, while Chris Godina and Tyler Meza claimed their matches 6-3 and 6-2, and finally, George Garcia and Chase Fifield claimed the eight-point winning their matches 6-1 and 6-3.
Lathrop managed only one match win in the sixth singles set, winning 7-5 and 6-4 over Tiger Sebi Paolini. The Tigers sit in second place in the WAC behind the powerhouse and defending state champion, Mt. House.
