The Los Banos Unified School District Board Meeting was held on October 13, 2022. The meeting started off with Anthony Parierra, Board President, paying respect to former board member Margaret Brenton, who had passed away shortly after the September Board meeting. He expressed that she was a great board member who always had the best interests of the students and will be greatly missed.
Los Banos High School’s Student Representative, Jacinta Brown, delivered the report for both Los Banos and Pacheco High School.
At Pacheco High, September kicked off with a senior-parent meeting on the first where information for the entire year was given to families. Sept. 12-16 was Pacheco High’s “kindness week” which promoted students to show off their kindness. On Sept. 16, “ABC30 News” visited the school for an energetic morning rally and for Friday morning football. On Sept. 24, the band and color guard took part in the Pitman Parade of Champions and finished top of their classes.
Sept. 26-30 was homecoming week, when Wednesday included a very well attended night rally at Veterans Stadium, and Friday was the homecoming parade that incorporated a half-time fireworks show.
Four members of the school’s choir also prepared for the Regional Honor Choir at Fresno State where students auditioned from all over the state to be in the regional ensembles and for a chance to be in the California All-State Honor Choir. California has only three regional honor choirs: Central, Coastal, and South. Daisy Aubry was accepted into the California Central Region Honor Choir.
In Los Banos High School’s report, it was stated that Sept. 16 was homecoming. There was an annual homecoming parade at the halftime event where the senior homecoming royalty was Jacinta Brown and Mark Carriero. The Homecoming Dance was on Sept. 17 where almost 350 students attended the “Hollywood” themed dance. An English teacher, Josh Smith, also donated his time to provide DJ services where students loved much more than the music at previous dances.
Clubs have been meeting regularly and there are over 30 active clubs on campus. Environmental Club Advisor, Michael Salaz, organized a city event and planted trees at the Regency Park in town, furthering community outreach from the high school and working towards bettering the town by encouraging student involvement.
On Sept. 24, the band and color guard also attended the Pitman High School marching competition where the band received third place and color guard received second place in their division. The Spanish Honor Society celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Journalism students have published twice as much as ever before with over 30 new articles for October in Paw-Print newspaper. Interact Club and Future Farmers of America have also paired together to host a Socktober event where socks will be donated to those in need at the homeless shelter. The Future Farmers of America Club also collected about 143 bottles of vitamins to donate to students in Guatemala whose school was built by a local teacher at the district, Jenifer Barcellos.
