On August 30 at 6:46 p.m. firefighters from the Los Banos Fire Department were dispatched to an apartment fire at 1301 Canal Farm Lane. Volunteer firefighters and Merced County Fire Station 71 also responded as part of an auto-aid agreement.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one unit on fire and worked to extinguish the blaze while police officers notified residents in nearby units.
After approximately 45 minutes the blaze was extinguished. The fire was contained to one apartment in the complex.
The apartment was occupied by a family with children. According to Los Banos Interim Fire Chief, Ray Reyna Jr., the cause may be associated with faulty electrical wiring in one of the bedrooms.
No injuries were reported and The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family that was displaced, Reyna said.
Reyna commended the firefighters saying, “they did a fantastic job in fighting this fire. I am very thankful for the assistance from county fire and for their ongoing partnership with our community.”
