It hearkened old-time Dos Palos Broncos football fans back to the days of Kara Hall, an all-around athlete who perfected the patented quarterback sweep.
Taking advantage of fine lead blocking all night, Broncos quarterback Nate Galindo rambled for 173 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead his squad to a 25-14 non-league win over Justin Garza-Fresno.
This Friday, Dos Palos will continue its 2026 schedule when they travel to Los Banos to take on Pacheco High at Veterans Stadium.
Last Friday, Pacheco was mercy-ruled by Sonora, one of the top teams in the Sac-Joaquin, 49-8, and now stands at 1-1 in the still-new season.
Operating out of the shotgun, the junior Galindo was able to continually get around the left end for big gains. Following the lead blocks of running back Nick Emory as well as edge blocks by tight end Ace O’Banion and wide receiver Eric Franco, Galindo gashed the Guardians for big gains.
All the while, the Dos Palos defense was able to keep Garza’s athletic junior quarterback Darian Williams in check for most of the evening.
After Williams scored on a seven-yard scramble to open the scoring in the second quarter, an RPO run by Galindo up the middle gained 21 yards, and a pair of carries by Emory took the ball down to the Garza four-yard line before he scored on the next play to close the gap to 7-6.
Just before halftime, a key sack on Williams by Broncos linebacker Justin Hurd stopped a drive at midfield.
In the third quarter, the Broncos marched down to the Garza 34-yard line. One play later, Galindo faked a handoff, headed up the middle and scampered all the way into the end zone to give the Broncos their first lead of the night.
After Garza was forced to punt and Dos Palos took over on their 33-yard line, Galindo twice swept around the left end to give the Broncos the touchdown of the evening on the next play.
Emory put the game away for good in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run.
The Broncos held Garza to just three yards rushing. Defensive back Eric Franco was the leading tackler with four, followed by Hurd, JJ Corchado, and Emmanuel Contreras.
