An identification has been made of the person who died last month after their vehicle overturned and landed in a local canal.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office has confirmed Dylan Snyder, 30, of Dos Palos, was the man found dead in the Aug. 29 crash.
The California Highway Patrol Los Banos Office led the investigation after the incident.
According to the CHP, dispatch received a report of a car being submerged in the Outside Delta-Mendota Canal southeast of Cotton Gin Road and Woo Road at 10:03 a.m. A preliminary investigation indicated a 2001 Dodge was traveling north along the east bank of the outside canal at an unknown rate of speed and crashed through a temporary barricade. The vehicle overturned several times and landed on its roof, submerged in water, according to the CHP.
Being at the bottom of the canal, it took authorities some time to locate the vehicle after reporting to the scene of the accident. Several agencies, including Cal Fire and the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, assisted.
At 5:48 p.m. the vehicle was retrieved from the canal with a deceased Snyder still inside.
The CHP stated the Dodge sustained major frame and water damage from the rollover crash. CHP stated it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
