A Dos Palos man was taken into custody Wednesday after allegedly making criminal threats, according to law enforcement.

The Dos Palos Police Department received a report of a disturbance on the 1800 block of Ida Street at 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to the location and encountered 40-year-old Christopher Smith of Dos Palos.

Police said Smith had a loaded firearm on him. Two additional guns believed to be connected to Smith were also discovered near the location.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and possession of a firearm in a public place.

Smith was booked into Merced County Jail. Smith is currently not listed among inmates at the facility, indicating he may have been released from custody.

Police thanked the public for its assistance.

“We appreciate the community members who promptly reported the disturbance. If you see suspicious or dangerous activity, please report it immediately,” the department stated in a social media post.
