On Aug. 22, the Dos Palos Broncos stormed into Loftin Stadium for the annual “Westside War” with the Los Banos Tigers. The Broncos routed the home team by 43–19.

Both teams were a little sluggish in the first half of the contest, with the Tigers holding a 12–9 lead at the intermission.

After Jesus Bon kicked a field goal to give the Broncos a 3–0 lead, Dylan Brandi and Alex Vanderveen opened a gaping hole for Raul Diaz (8 carries, 105 yards and 1 touchdown), who scampered 84 yards to the end zone, giving the Tigers a 6–3 advantage.

Los Banos upped their lead to 12–3 when Gavin Blackwood-Estrada (9 carries, 57 yards and 1 TD) scored on a 10-yard run. However, that was the last time the locals held the lead that night.

The Broncos used 6 rushing TDs, two each from Bon and Andre Flores, and one score each from Jesus Tapia and Nicolas Emery, to roll up 43 unanswered points to run away with the game.

The Tigers scored a last TD late in the game when Donovan Greer connected with Joshua Gargano on a 72-yard scoring strike. When Elias Salvatier kicked the points after touchdown, it made the final score 43–19 in favor of the Broncos.

Adrian Rivas (9 tackles and 1 fumble) paced the Tigers defense. Angel Valerio (7 tackles), Gargano (6 tackles) and Diaz added four stops for the Tigers.

The Tigers will attempt to rebound on Aug. 29 at home against the Hilmar Yellowjackets, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
