Portfolio Day at Dos Palos High School (DPHS) is a huge event not only for the students, but for the community and staff who help put it together. This year’s Portfolio Day was held Feb. 21.
Portfolio Day is a time where students have the opportunity to showcase their best work and show off the skills they have gained throughout their high school careers. They display the potential to be possible employers and professionals in the industry they see themselves succeeding in.
Each student who was interviewed was given feedback from their interviewer which they could use as further guidance. Many students were able to create connections with people they can seek for help in the future, such as internships and advice on the pathway they choose to follow.
However, Portfolio Day isn’t only a day for students to showcase their work from over the years; it’s also a day for students, especially seniors, to get a taste of what the future may hold for them while applying for a job.
On this day, students are given the opportunity and are expected to come dressed in their most professional attire. Students show up and are guided to the library where they hold practice interviews.
Many will find that by having Portfolio Day they are able to create a portfolio for themselves that they could look back on in the future. When the time comes and they need to use it, they can refer to the information and have a form of guidance.
This year’s Portfolio Day had a total of 231 students being interviewed from classes such as Virtual Enterprise and Foundations in Education. This couldn’t have been done without the teachers who guided their students through the process of building their portfolio.
Thanks goes to the staff and community members including: Susan Foster, Nick Jakobczak, Lucia Lopez, Priscilla Gomez, Samantha Orduno, Jesus Alejandre, Brenda Lima, Maria Davis, Carmen Camarena, Staff Sgt. Banda, Cpl. Garcia, Anne Catrina, Nav Bagri, Kassandra Jimenez, Jason Von Allman, Wyatt Hogue, Dr. Estrada, and A. Herndandez.
Portfolio Day wouldn’t have been a success without the help from the staff, the community and the students who gave their all in their interviews.
