Henry Miller Elementary School’s Caroling for Cans event was a tremendous success, highlighting the generosity of our community and the dedication of HME staff—both current and past.
The event, which also saw participation from spouses, family members, local vendors, Los Banos residents and employees from Berkshire Hathaway, was a true community effort, bringing together a diverse group united in the spirit of giving.
Thanks to their combined efforts, 25 HME families received Christmas dinners, helping to bring extra joy to their holiday season.
As a first-time participant, this event was a memorable experience. What stood out most was how deeply this initiative resonated with our students and families. While they know us as educators in the classroom and on campus, it’s an entirely different experience when they see us stepping outside of that role and engaging in acts of kindness as individuals.
A simple meal can make a significant impact, and I believe that moments like these teach our students the true values of compassion, generosity, and community.
A special thank you goes to Ilana Benson, who spearheaded the planning meetings and organized the delivery logistics. Ilana’s efforts were instrumental in mapping out the routes for staff to efficiently distribute meals across our community.
Looking ahead, I’m excited for the future of Caroling for Cans. This event has become a cherished tradition that exemplifies the heart of HME, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it this year.
