As summer leaves, autumn arrives, and application deadlines for universities and colleges are approaching. That means seniors must decide where they are headed after walking the stage on graduation day.

Students from Dos Palos High School have been going on different trips to tour various colleges. The students get a feel for the other schools and environments.

There is a difference between seeing and hearing about a place versus going and seeing it for yourself. On these trips, students can think about their future and get a sense of what they want.

Some of the trips were local, while some were a bit further. On Oct. 18, one of their first trips was to UC Merced and California State University, Stanislaus. Students who visited these campuses and knew they wanted to commute got a feel for the close-to-home environment.

DPHS students also toured Universal Technical Institute in Sacramento. Students saw the school for themselves and got to picture their future before deciding on their plans.

Another tour was of CSU, Fresno on Nov. 10. While Fresno is an option for commuting students, many housing options and opportunities are available.

Students have many choices, and one choice that many schools offer is dorms. The students who were getting a tour of CSU, Fresno were also given a tour of their Village.

The university’s Village has apartment-style living near the school, accessible by car and foot. The Village allowed students to see the different styles of living they would consider when making their final decision.

Students went on their latest trip to Santa Cruz on Nov. 19, where they visited and toured UC Santa Cruz. This university was a complete change of scenery. The school, which has a view of the ocean and is surrounded by many trees, sparked a new view for the students compared to their typical view.

Students touring the different schools will soon make a big decision as the application deadline approaches. This is a significant first step for the next chapter in their lives.
