On Sept. 27, Dos Palos High School Link Crew and Leadership Clubs hosted the freshman reception dance.
Club members encouraged upperclassmen to invite freshmen they knew to attend. They spent weeks preparing the dance to be a warm welcome for incoming students.
Leadership member Nira Magdaleno said, “The main goal for the dance was to welcome the freshmen. They dedicated a dance to them to show they mattered and will always be supported by upperclassmen.”
The clubs’ members spent their time creating decorations for the dance to fit the theme, Under the Sea.
There were times when the planning process got stressful for the club members. “The main feeling fueling leadership was hope for the freshman class to have a good night and enjoy themselves,” Magdaleno said.
Jamily Alvarez, a freshman in attendance, gave a little insight into their experience stating that their experience was good and the dance was very welcoming. Many freshmen who attended would agree.
Magdaleno said, “Their experience at the dance was like no other. I’m so glad I attended and am so thankful to have invited a freshman that I know well.”
Upperclassmen invited freshmen to show there are people at school who are there to help. Speaking of the person they invited, Magdaleno said, “It made me feel proud because of the fact that both of us had a great night.”
Overall, the dance had a good number of attendees setting the mood for future dances.
