On Aug. 29, the Los Banos Tigers freshman football squad hosted the Hilmar Yellowjackets at Loftin Stadium, and the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie.

The defense was the order of the night for both teams, as they both struggled to move the ball offensively. The Tigers used a play from Zachery Yates (6 tackles), Fernando Cornejo (5 tackles) and Austin Ladd (4 tackles) to keep Hilmar off the scoreboard.

Finally, late in the third quarter, the Yellowjackets used a Tigers fumble to set up their only score. Beginning at the Los Banos 23-yard line, Hilmar used a 21-yard touchdown run from Wendel Gill to take a 6-0 lead.

Elijah Chiappetta intercepted a Yellowjackets pass at the Tigers’ 47-yard line, and Los Banos needed just one play to score a TD and tie the score.

Zaevin Cancino (5 of 16 passing, 132 yards and a TD) connected with Chiappetta (4 receptions, 132 yards and a TD) on a 53-yard scoring strike and a 6-6 tie. The point after touchdown failed, and the score remained tied for the rest of the contest.
