After accomplishing his most prized gift of building, raising and watching his family grow together, successfully and honestly, Jim McCurdy was at ease as he left his earthly home and entered his final resting place on September 11, 2024. Jim was no stranger to hard work. He worked from a young age until his body wouldn’t allow him to anymore. He took great pride in all that he did, from tilling the land, to supporting his family, raising his daughters and being a friend to many. His roots ran deep in Dos Palos, where he was born to Norma and Hubert McCurdy, and raised as the oldest of his 3 siblings, Donald McCurdy (Terry), Danny McCurdy (Vickie) and Susan Ramirez (Peter, Jr.).
Jim had a strong sense of right and wrong and wasn’t afraid to hold others accountable. He was a traditional man in which the young often viewed Jim with fear, but with age and maturation, they grew to understand and appreciate the values and morals that he instilled in them. He upheld so many traits of what it means to be “a good person” by just watching him live his life. He wasn’t a man of many words, but one of which his actions spoke louder. He was selfless, never complained or asked for much. He found joy in providing, protecting and helping others achieve their desires. He was the constant, strong, resilient, backbone of his immediate and extended family. He took that role with great purpose and pride.
Jim was also blessed with some life long and new friends who knew how to enjoy life. Jim loved fishing, hunting and just sleeping next to the Merced River or up at the Deer Club. He shared early mornings in the duck blinds and late nights under the stars with many family and friends. He leaves behind a loving wife of 49 years, Marsha McCurdy and 2 daughters, Jamie Barroso (David) and Lisa Van Hagen (Matthew) and 3 grandchildren Hadley Van Hagen, Lauren and Andrew Barroso, his brother in law Richard Jose (Kathy) and sister in law Sharon Jose (Karin), a paternal aunt, Wanda Brinkley, cousins and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
