Henry Pereira passed away quietly on Friday, December 8, 2023 at New Bethany at the age of 92. Henry was born on January 4, 1931 in Los Banos, California to A.F. and Maria Pereira.  He attended Charleston Elementary and worked on the family farm.  Henry farmed all his life, first with his father and brothers, and then later with his wife & son. 

Henry served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1957.  During his time in the service, he was a driver for Five-Star General Omar Bradley.  After returning from the service, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Spadafore.  They raised three children together.  Henry has enjoyed many years of hunting, camping and watching his children and grandchildren play sports and show at the local fairs.

Henry was preceded in death by his son Henry (Hanky) Pereira Jr. and his parents, A.F. & Maria Pereira, as well as brothers, Antone and Joe Pereira and sister Mary P. Silva.  He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 65 years; Daughters Debbie Pereira-Young and Mary Lou Gilardi (Leo); Grandchildren Josh Pereira (Taylor); Jackie Young; Nick Gilardi (Sarah) and Jenna Gilardi.  Great Grandchildren Jaxson Pereira, Liam Diedrich and Hunter Gilardi.  He is also survived by his brother, Manuel Pereira and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1621 Center Avenue, Los Banos.  Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Rosary at 10 a.m. followed by Mass. 

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to New Bethany Guild, Bristol Hospice or St. Joseph’s Church.
