The Los Banos American Legion Post #166 and VFW Post #2487 held their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Los Banos Cemetery on Center Avenue in Los Banos on May 29..

Members of the Los Banos Elks Lodge #2510 were also in attendance and took part in the ceremony.

The Monday ceremony began at 9:30 a.m. and was well attended by community members of all ages.

Later in the day many Los Banos residents paused in their activities at 3 p.m. local time to participate in a national moment of remembrance.

The Los Banos ceremony came a day after the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella held its Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony. The Sunday morning event included speeches by Congressman John Duarte and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria.

“Los Banos veterans appreciate the work the National Cemetery does to honor those who lost their lives defending their country,” said Los Banos VFW Post Commander Mike Hughes, “we also believe it’s also important to have a service in our city’s cemetery, allowing local residents to honor veterans buried here.”
