Los Banos Police Sergeant Jesus Parras was on patrol in the 1900 block of Place Road on May 5at 7:30 p.m., when he observed 50-year-old Nemario Vasquez of Los Banos inside an open garage, according to Los Banos Police Commander, Ray Reyna.
Vasquez was wanted by the Newman Police Department for robbery charges. As the officer attempted to contact Vasquez, he closed the garage door and barricaded himself inside the residence.
After several attempts to contact the suspect, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was contacted and responded to assist. Los Banos Detectives also responded and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
After several hours, two additional suspects wanted by the Newman Police Department , 39-year-old Marcus Castaneda and 46-year-old Carlos Guerra, both from Los Banos, surrendered to Officers. The third suspect, Vasquez, was eventually found hiding inside the attic of the residence and was taken into custody.
During the incident, police arrested a fourth suspect inside of the residence, 36-year-old Jay Ohman of Los Banos for a parole violation warrant.
