It was an exciting time for five young Firebaugh girls, their coach and their parents.
The ladies, from the Firebaugh Falcons Youth cheerleading squad, ventured to Las Vegas recently for the JAMZ National competition. They, under the guidance of head coach Laura Garcia, performed their routine and brought home first place in the D13 Hip Hop division.
Garcia, who has been a cheerleader coach for several years, said that the girls have been practicing non-stop since November.
“But we changed the whole dance routine in early January,” Garcia said. “Then we had to change it again one week before the competition because one of the team members quit.”
Prior to heading to Las Vegas, Firebaugh competed in three other competitions, placing either first or second.
“The girls were so excited and proud of themselves for all the hard work they did,” said Garcia. “They pushed through each challenge that they faced.”
