The gym at Pacheco high school was loud and rocking last Tuesday, November 22, when the Panthers boys’ basketball squad hosted the Dos Palos Broncos. A large crowd made up of the two local schools’ families and fans roared as their respective teams ran up and down the basketball court.
The Panthers opened a 17 to 8 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Pacheco outscored Dos Palos in all four quarters, 13-11 in the second period, to take a 30-19 advantage into halftime. The Panthers upped their lead to 54-35 in the third quarter, outsourcing the Broncos 24-16 in the period. Pacheco closed out the scoring and the game by scoring 8 points to the Broncos’ 4, making the final score read 62-39 in favor of Pacheco.
The Panthers were led by two-way star Manvir Gakhal who recorded a game-high 14 points and crashed the boards to haul in nine rebounds. DeYonte Bell followed Gakhal with 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Tyrell Jenkins, Phillip Castelanos, and Aiden Huerta added nine, seven, and five points for the victorious Panthers.
For the Broncos, Peyton Van Worth scored 13 points, followed by J.Q. Jones, who added 11 points for Dos Palos.
