The biggest musical performance of the year in Los Banos was last weekend.

The Los Banos Unified School District Music Showcase took place April 25 and was hosted by Pacheco High School. A variety of musical performances by different groups and different levels fill the Brett Lee Gym.

Starting at 11 a.m., there were choirs with harmonious voices from Creekside Junior High School, Los Banos Junior High School, Pacheco High School and Los Banos High School.

Next was the Los Banos High School Zone performances at 2 p.m., featuring elementary schools such as Charleston, Henry Miller, Los Banos, Mercy Springs and Westside.

Elementary school band teacher, Thaddeus Bangle leads students Saturday.

After the elementary performance the Creekside and Los Banos High School bands with jazz and concert pieces performed.

Following was the Pacheco High School Zone at 4 p.m., with elementary schools Grasslands, Lorena Falasco, R.M. Miano and Volta. Then, jazz and concert groups performed from Los Banos Jr. High and PHS.

At the end of the day, the honor band of both junior highs and high schools performed in the Pacheco High Theater. These musicians have worked hard, having to go through a challenging audition to make it to the ensemble.

All the district music teachers planned out this showcase, including PHS band director Deaven Rodney, who was asked what he was looking forward to most for this event.

“I’m most excited about getting to showcase all of the music that we have here in town, specifically all school levels,” he said.

Anthony Parreira, the Master of Ceremonies for the day time performances and also a longtime music teacher, stated, “I know the hard work that the students and the band and choir directors put in to get the music students ready to show off their talents in a showcase like this. It is great to hear the progress that all the groups make from where they started at the beginning of the year to where they are now.”
