Dorothy Sylvia Rogers Hursky, 93 passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Merced, California. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many, her presence will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was born August 11, 1932 in Oakland to Harry Rogers and Mary Josephine (Morris) Rogers. She was the oldest of 4 siblings, Dorothy, Margie Rose, Don Rogers and Barbara Faust. Dorothy was raised in Byron, California, until the age of 9 then her family moved to Tracy for the summer. After that, the family moved to Las Deltas, she went to high school at Dos Palos High graduating in 1950. After high school she helped bring in extra money for the family working at the Garin Ranch with her grandfather who was a huge presence in her life. She applied for a job with Bank of America and was hired October 2, 1950, when she retired after 42 years in 1993. She loved the interactions she had working with her clients.
Dorothy met her first husband Coy while working at the packing shed, they were married October 11, 1952 and had 2 daughters. Coy was a deputy sheriff for Madera County, and divorced in 1985.
Dorothy met the love of her life Ladd Hursky and they were married 2/14/1987 she said they had “so much in common and fun together”, they loved traveling in their 37 foot motorhome (car and pets in tow) they traveled all over the United States and into Canada during the summer months and stayed in Mesa, Arizona during the winter months they did this for 14 years. Unfortunately, Ladd became ill and they returned to Merced.
She was an outgoing person who loved to travel, entertain, especially cooking, when she saw a new recipe she had to try it. She had endless energy always creating, whether it was ceramics or some new craft idea she had seen. She was always concerned for cats and dogs and wanting her daughter Linda to help with getting them care and finding them a good home.
Dorothy is survived by her brother Don Rogers and his wife Betty, her sister Barbara Faust and her husband Larry, daughters, Joanne Tiller Upton and her husband Bob Upton, Linda Tiller and her wife Nancy Justin, as well as 3 grandchildren, 5 greatgrandchildren, 4 greatgreat grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
