Grace Soares, the reigning Miss Dos Palos, will headline this year’s Downtown Christmas Parade, which will take place next Thursday, December 4.

This year, the annual parade will have a theme — “A Candyland Christmas.”  Set up will be at 5:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 6 p.m.

“Absolutely,” Dos Palos Mayor Katy Reed responded when asked if she will be in attendance. “Last year’s parade was the biggest we have ever had and hopefully, this year’s will be just as big if not bigger. Our parade chairman, Shelly Wright, does such a wonderful job.”

Besides the floats and farm equipment, the Dos Palos High School band will also be marching.

Mayor Reed added that students from Westside High School will be assisting Wright in getting the parade organized and to keep it moving along.

Also, students from Dos Palos Elementary School who have shown “exemplary leadership” will ride along in police chief John Smothers’ squad car.

After the parade ends, everyone is invited to join Santa Claus at the Scout Hut for the traditional lighting of the Dos Palos Community Christmas tree.

For more information about the parade, contact Wright at (209)509-6529.

Also, Dos Palos residents and businesses are invited to “Deck the Halls” for the annual Christmas Decorating Contest.

This year’s contest is again being sponsored by the Dos Palos Lions Club. There will be an overall “Sweepstakes Winner.” Other prizes will be awarded to first and second place inside the city limits and first and second for the county.  There will also be first and second place for local businesses that participate.
