Even though the Coalinga Bobcats collected 12 hits to Creekside Junior High School’s eight, the Bobcats still fell 9-8 during the championship game played May 20 at Creekside Junior High.

The win is the first girls softball championship won at Creekside.

The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the first inning after Llana tripled to center field, and Cabria doubled to center field, each scoring one run.

Creekside’s Audrey Ornelas doubled down the left field line, which helped Creekside Junior High tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the third, the Bobcats broke up the tie when Llana doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Paisley followed to extend the lead to 4-2.

Creekside flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 8-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jazmine Rodriguez that drove in three.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the seventh on a home run to left field by Cabria.

Starting Bobcat pitcher Llana surrendered eight hits and nine runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking four.

Creekside amassed eight hits in the game. Ornelas provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Creekside with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Ornelas and Jazmine Rodriguez each collected two hits for Creekside.

Creekside’s Addison Grove went two for three with triple and a single and three RBI’s.

Creekside pitcher Ornelas allowed 12 hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. At the plate she went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, 2 RBI’s, and 2 stolen bases.
